Why the Vamp?
| When I was a kid in the 1970s, I used to watch the Sonny & Cher show. My favorite skit was “The Vamps” — Sonny would play a piano with Cher lying on top and singing about notorious women in history. “She was a scamp, a camp and a bit of a tramp. She was a V. A. M. P. Vamp!” This would be followed by skits in which the aforementioned vamp, played by Cher, would get some guy, played by Sonny, into some ridiculous trouble.
I’ll admit that these skits forever colored my impression of the “vamp.” The vamp is a woman who owns her own power. She knows what she wants and is willing to take the actions necessary to get what she wants. She is a woman to be reckoned with and worthy of respect. And, she often goes where others are too timid to go and behaves in ways that others are too demure to behave. So, when I came up with the name “WordPress ReVamp,” I thought it would be a hoot to pump up the “vamp” theme of the name. Therefore, all my packages are named after famous vamps in history … my small way of tipping my hat to their hootspa. Besides, when you entice your visitors to give you their name and email address so you can market to them later, isn’t there just a little bit of the vamp in what you’re doing? Doesn’t she hang out in your headlines, sashay through your opt-in box and meander through your entire marketing process? If not, she should. |
